Teaching information fluency skills at either the building level or district level is most desirable. A librarian and technology coordinator need the support that the administration can give. Planning/professional development time, pay, incentives, credit are all building/district decisions that can have tremendous influence on how effectively an information fluency skills can be embedded in existing school programs.
Building and district administrators are faced with incredible challenges. They have numerous reports to complete and No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation looms over everything they do.
It is necessary to explain to building and district administrators how teaching information fluency skills will benefit their students, help teachers reach their course goals, and help in meeting the requirements of building/district reports. If teaching information fluency skills is a priority for the administrators, it will probably be a priority for the entire school community.
