The administration of Lincoln School District recognizes the need to implement a scope and sequence for digital information fluency skills in its schools. A committee has been selected to develop a scope and sequence. You have been asked to serve on the committee. Your team has been given a list of core competencies that students must master before graduating.
With your team members, begin developing a chart that lists the digital information fluency skills that will be taught at each grade level. Identify the competency to be taught, then list the subject area where the skill will be taught or reinforced and one example of an activity/unit to teach the concept. Decide how this scope and sequence should be made available to the rest of the school staff. (e.g. categories, format)
For this activity, keep in mind the perspective that other members of your school community bring to the scope and sequence development process:
• Technology teacher
• Librarian
• Media Specialist
• Assistant principal
• 2nd, 5th, 8th grade teachers
• English, Social Studies, Science teachers
You don’t need to reinvent the wheel! Consult the following websites to help you develop your chart. Look at items with a * first and if you have time go on to the other sites.
