Formats: How can you search for documents in non-HTML formats?

File types are desinated by file extensions. The most common file type is Hypertext Markup Language (html); others include, Adobe (pdf) and Microsoft (.doc, .xls, .ppt, .wks, wps, wdb), Rich Text Format (rtf), Shockwave Flash (swf), and Text (txt).

The Search Wizard demonstrates two advanced uses for this operator.

filetype: Narrows the search to one file type.
Ex: filetype:swf returns Shockwave Flash documents.

-filetype: Eliminates one file type from your search.
Ex: -filetype:mw removes all MacWrite files from your results.
